On March 3, the prosecutor Fatou Bensouda formalized the opening of the investigation of the International Criminal Court on the “situation in Palestine”.

The investigation will focus on crimes under international law committed since June 13 2014 in the occupied Palestinian territories: the West Bank including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

After decades of lack of accountability for crimes under international law, on which Amnesty International and other organizations have been collecting and publishing evidence for many years, Prosecutor Bensouda’s investigation could pave the way for justice for thousands of victims of serious human rights violations
