A Tale of Real Reconciliation that Leads to Real Peace

A while back, a group of dear friends, fellow humanists, got together, inspired to make a video on reconciliation, a theme close to their hearts. The video was set to a narrator accompanying a tale of a traveller who goes through life, as all of us do…

Narrator:

As we travel on the road of life,

searching to fulfill our hopes and dreams,

our shadow always accompanies us….

like a faithful friend.

But it can also become an enemy…

when frustrations,

failures,

and conflicts bring us

to resentment, hatred and the desire for revenge.

The shadow of our memory follows us,

denies us peace of mind

and poisons the future.

How do we reconcile with these enemies of life”?

What does to reconcile really mean?

The words of the spiritual guide, Silo, Sage of the Andes,

points out a path toward real reconciliation:

To enter the superior step of reconciliation

is not to forget the wrongs or to falsify the memory.

It is to look at the situation and to comprehend it,

acknowledging one’s errors and those of others.

It is not to judge errors, neither our own

nor those of others.

To reconcile is to understand that an enemy doesn’t live in our interiors but rather,

we are all human beings full of hopes and failures…

all with beautiful fulfilling moments and also moments of frustration and resentment.

And, to reconcile is to not walk down the same road twice,

but to repair twice over the wrongs we have done without asking others to reciprocate.

If we have located such moments,

cleansing them of resentments

tying us to the past,

then we will have made a good work…

Reaching the source of renovation and transformation.
