Legislation has passed the House of Representatives, and marriage equality is now a reality in Australia.
LGBTQI Australians will see their relationships treated equally under the law, and with dignity and respect. This historic change will help shape a safer, more inclusive country for the next generation of LGBTQI kids.
This outcome has been due to the hard work, determination, and courage of so many people. LGBTQI community groups, activists and allies stood up, spoke out and built a movement for equality that couldn’t be stopped.
Once Australia said YES, we asked Parliament to ensure marriage equality was achieved before the end of the year — and it has.
