Thank you Mathew Norman from The Independent for the perfect allegory of this ridiculous expensive and unaffordable, immoral and useless piece of nuclear stupidity. It has nothing to do with defence (it cannot do anything about the UK’s present enemies) and at a time when people are demanding the restoration of the Health Service (there is no money, privatise, privatise, privatise, and destroy the lives of the junior doctors, to start with) paying over £100billion to replace Trident is an insult to the British people.

Jeremy Corbyn stated at the Labour Party Conference “There is one thing I want to make my own position on absolutely clear, and I believe I have a mandate from my election on it. I don’t believe that £100bn spent on a new generation of nuclear weapons taking up a quarter of our defence budget is the right way forward”, urging at the same time voters to stand up to the Conservatives’ austerity policies. (The Guardian). He has consistently maintained that he could not envisage any situation when he would press the button.

On February 27th CND and a number of organisations are taking to the streets to demand an end to the Trident replacement project:

CND says

“Not only are these weapons immoral, potentially genocidal and strategically irrelevant in the face of the realistic threats we face today, they are also hugely expensive. The Government’s National Security Strategy identifies international terrorism, cyber-attacks and natural hazards as greater threats than nuclear war…

…The government is in favour of replacing Trident at a cost of around £100 billion. This money would be enough to fully fund A&E services for 40 years, employ 150,000 new nurses, build 1.5 million affordable homes, build 30,000 new primary schools, or cover tuition fees for 4 million students”

World without Wars and Violence will also be there, and Pressenza will be sharing this important campaign to eliminate nuclear weapons, from the UK and the rest of the world. It is not only hospitals school and housing that could be funded by getting rid of Trident, but also Peace and Nonviolence. Wars are not stopped by missiles but by dialogue.
