On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates will join heads of state and government invited by the German government for the national celebration.

Chaired by Nobel Peace Laureate Mikhail Gorbachev and Walter Veltroni, co-chairman of the summit, the event is under the patronage of the Gorbachev Foundation and organized by the Permanent Secretariat of Nobel Peace Laureates Summits, based in Rome and Moscow, in cooperation with the City of Berlin. The event is hosted by Mikhail Gorbachev, the Governing Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit and Walter Veltroni.

WHO: 18 Nobel Peace Prize Laureates (see www.nobelforpeace-summits.org for names and bios)
WHAT: Annual Summit of previous Nobel Peace Prize winners (visit Web site for program) begun in 1999.
WHEN: Tuesday, 10 November and Wednesday, 11 November 2009. The Summit’s Peace Award Ceremony and announcement of the Summit Final Declaration will occur at 1300 on Wednesday, 11th November.
WHERE: Berliner Rathaus (City Hall of Berlin), Rathausstraße 15, 10178 Berlin
WHY: To consider “Breaking down new walls and building bridges to ensure a world of human rights and a world without violence.” Panels on 10 and 11 November will consider “Walls between Rich and Poor,” “Walls of Menace to the Environment,” “Walls of Nuclear Weapons and Armament,” and “Walls of Intolerance.”
