Peace March expeditionaries rest at Mount Ararat’s Base 1

05.08.2009 - Ankara - Pía Figueroa

They will then descend the same day, in order to become acclimatized and later make the final scale to the peak where they will plant a flag of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence.

Together with local Turkish mountaineers, most of them shepherds, they shared a meal of bread, onions and dried tomatoes, on a night of heavy rains with thunder and lightning.

The mountain, one of the most recognized in the world given its important mythical significance, awaits the climbers’ final ascent. After this trek, they are planning on climbing the cordillera of the Andes, reaching Punta de Vacas Park on January 2, 2010, for the conclusion of the World March.
