Obama meets with neighbouring leaders

10.08.2009 - Guadalajara - Radio Netherlands

The three are discussing the environment, the economy and the violence between the competing drug cartels which kills thousands of people in Mexico every year. The political crisis in Honduras is also on the agenda.

Hundreds of people marched through the streets of Guadalajara on Sunday to ask that more attention be paid to the environment and human rights. They criticised “the increased militarisation” of a “failed” war against drugs and a rise in human rights abuses in Mexico. The three leaders will discuss climate change policies in preparation for the international environmental conference in Copenhagen in December.
