PLO: Palestine Meets the Conditions for Full Membership at the United Nations

The Palestine Liberation Organization Negotiations Affairs Department released a report, Road for Palestine Statehood – Recognition and Admission, says that Palestine has met all the conditions for forming an independent state according to the 1933 Montevideo Convention, which states the rights and duties of countries.

Woman journalist’s murder turns Veracruz into deadliest state for media this year

Yesterday’s discovery of the body of Yolanda Ordaz de la Cruz, a crime reporter and columnist for the regional daily Notiver in the east-coast port city of Veracruz, adds her name to the long list of journalists who have been murdered or have disappeared in Mexico. A total of 77 have been killed since 2000 and 23 have gone missing since 2003.

Fighting Erupts in Somali Capital over Food Aid

Heavy clashes have erupted in the Somali capital of Mogadishu after African Union troops launched operations against the militant group, al-Shabab. The AU says it is trying to protect famine relief efforts from al-Shabab, which has reportedly tried to block the delivery of aid after initially denying that a famine is taking place. At least 6 people were killed in the violence

South Africa will judge Apartheid in Palestine

Mr. Pierre Galand, the international coordinator of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine, confirmed at a Cape Town press conference on Thursday that the Tribunal´s third session will be held November 5-6 in Cape Town, South Africa. The Russell Tribunal on Palestine is an international people’s tribunal to promote peace and justice in Palestine and the Middle East.

Israeli Soldiers Attack Non-Violent Protest in Al-Walajeh; Seven Arrested

Israeli soldiers arrested two Palestinians and five Internationals during an anti-wall nonviolent protest on Wednesday morning in Al-Walajeh village near the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem. On Tuesday, Israeli army bulldozers started to uproot trees owned by local farmers to make way for the new section of the wall that Israel has been building for three year there.

Venezuela President Chávez Launches Re-election Bid

“I have medical, scientific, humanitarian, loving, and political reasons for staying on as leader of the government and as leader of an even stronger campaign than before” said Chávez. In an interview with the Correo del Orinoco newspaper, Chávez confirmed that he would be the first to put themselves forward in a bid for presidency if he is physically and mentally capable.

Activists and academics seek to preserve native tongues and culture.

Academics and activists in Bolivia and Mexico in July took steps to preserve indigenous languages whose survival is threatened of dying out with more use of Spanish. The Autonomous University of Mexico has launched an audio library of the 300 indigenous languages and dialects spoken in Mexico. The library has 800 audio language samples so far.
