Ban Ki-Moon Demands Better Treatment for Immigrants

Concluding the Third Global Forum on Migration, Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, urges governments of the world to improve living conditions and treatment of immigrants. Moon emphasizes that ‘immigrants be treated with more sensitivity in the face of these dramatic events. Dominican Athlete Marcos Díaz to Swim from Continent to Continent for Anti- Poverty Campaign

Between the months of May and August 2010 distinguished long-distance swimmer from the Dominican Republic Marcos Díaz will be crossing between all the various continents in a UN-supported campaign aimed at raising awareness against poverty. The swimmer spoke at the United Nations on the challenges posed by the initiative.

More than 776 million adults are illiterate

About 776 million adults, mostly women, are illiterate, and 75 million children are outside the schools system, the UN Secretary General stressed on the occasion of World Literacy Day, and went on to explain that only education allows individuals to exercise their rights as citizens and human beings.
