Over the past month, Bangladesh has witnessed a concerning surge in measles cases. As national hospitals struggle under the increasing pressure of patients, the Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Multi Super-Specialty Hospital, located in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, has extended a hand of friendship.
At a press conference held on Friday (April 17, 2026) at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), the hospital offered comprehensive cooperation to the Bangladesh government for the treatment of measles, viral fever, and other complex diseases.
Humanitarian Solidarity in Crisis
The current death toll from measles in Bangladesh has raised questions among the public and health experts alike. While 34 deaths were confirmed as measles as of April 16, the total number of deaths, including suspected cases, has reached 206. This ambiguity, coupled with the lack of definitive answers from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), has heightened public anxiety.
Speaking at the press conference, Kuresh Bambara, Director of Onco-Surgery Services at PIMS, stated, ‘If the Bangladesh government desires, we are ready to provide direct assistance in tackling this outbreak by sending our team of experienced doctors. Additionally, we are prepared to support awareness programs through audio-visual media.’
Special Priority for Affordable and Modern Treatment
Reflecting on the historical friendship between India and Bangladesh, the conference highlighted that PIMS will ensure world-class healthcare for Bangladeshi patients at a much lower cost compared to other major Indian hospitals like CMC or Apollo. Patients from Bangladesh will have access to advanced technology, particularly for cancer, gastroenterology, and complex liver diseases.
Dr. Kamal Kishore Bishno, Director of Gastrointestinal Surgery Services, noted, ‘In our hospital, even private ward beds are equipped with ICU-standard ventilation monitoring systems. We are committed to ensuring healthcare for the poor and underprivileged at transparent and affordable rates, without any hidden charges.’
New Horizons in Medical Cooperation
PIMS is not only focused on treating patients but also aims to contribute to the long-term development of Bangladesh’s health sector. Key proposals presented at the conference include:
- Physician Training: Specialized training at PIMS for Bangladeshi doctors upon government request.
- Employment Opportunities: Opportunities for Bangladeshi doctors to work at this international-standard hospital.
- Advanced Technology: Access to precision surgeries using ‘Tumor Mapping’ and ‘Minimally Invasive Techniques’ in onco-surgery.
- Follow-up Care: Ensuring regular online follow-up services for patients after they return home post-surgery.
Service Beyond Borders
Anita Roy, International Affairs Manager of the hospital, said: ‘We aim to serve people beyond borders by combining academic expertise with modern technology. Our goal is to work alongside the Bangladesh government in the health sector.’
PIMS, one of the leading medical centers in Rajasthan, has now introduced special arrangements for Bangladeshi patients, including assistance with necessary documentation and priority treatment. Amidst the ongoing measles crisis in Bangladesh, this international cooperation proposal is expected to add a new dimension to the medical and humanitarian relationship between the two nations.
