Trump Opens a Big Can of Worms

Donald Trump is completely betraying his MAGA base. His base elected him on a nationalist, isolationist platform centered around closed borders, pulling US troops out of foreign nations and stopping the neocons’ forever-wars. War and neocolonial expansion have been the focus and main priority of every US president since 9-11, since 2001, arguably longer. Trump is, right now, doing the opposite of what he was elected to do. He’s already on the cusp of vastly increasing rather than diminishing US overreach by entering this new war with Iran. He couldn’t have possibly opened a bigger can of worms. By starting a war with China and Russia’s key ally in the Middle East (keep in mind these are all BRICS nations), Trump has actually doubled down on the neocon globalists’ rush toward multiple wars with the “Global South”.

The 2 Neocon Factions in Washington

Where Nuland, Sullivan, Blinken and the “liberal” wing of neocons were pushing for a US/NATO war with Russia to happen by the end of 2025, Trump and the Graham, Rubio, Huckabee neocon faction have set up a second row of dominoes emanating from the East that, of course, intersects with the previously set up row. Trump and his advisors have created a 2-pronged set of potentially lethal circumstances that could very well end up costing the US trillions of dollars before this decade ends. Meanwhile on the domestic front, on July 4th Trump’s new mega-tax cuts for the super-wealthy are set to (most likely) be approved. This will, whether most of them are aware of it or not yet, deal a second blow to the vast majority of his base. The math isn’t difficult here folks. By siding with the neocon oligarch faction within the Republican party and entering this war in the Middle East, which Trump himself said would be suicidal a few years ago, he is openly betraying his MAGA base and those outside of his base simultaneously.

Is There a Way Out of This?

Is there a way out of this? Is it too late, for whatever set of reasons, to make this burgeoning potential WW3 scenario stop? Honestly, I’m not sure. But there’s one thing that I can definitively say without a sliver of doubt: This war will end via de-escalation only. The bloodlusting military escalation that the US has been spearheading all over the planet these last 25 years has no exit. It is a beeline to oblivion.

It’s so important to recognize that there’s essentially no difference between the objectives of the blue and red factions within the donor owned American political system when it comes to war. At this point in the 21st century, to not see this fact and clearly acknowledge it is to be both blind and dumb.

If Trump and his neocon and CIA cohorts continue to follow in the footsteps of the Biden and Bush Jr. administrations, if they keep listening to people like Lindsey Graham and Victoria Nuland in Washington, then there’s no hope that this war will end well or anytime soon. If, on the other hand, somehow, a serious global program of de-escalation begins, then there’s a chance that we, humanity, will push through this dangerously reckless and stupid phase we’re in. Full stop.

Don’t Shoot the Messenger

Lastly, it would be remiss of me not to include New Atlas analyst Brian Berletic’s opinion on this matter. For the simple reason that he has been the most consistently correct war analyst, to my knowledge, in the entire world, over the course of the last 2 and 1/2 years. In fact, he called both the initial Israeli attack on Iran and the quick US follow up to that attack a good month before they happened. Having said this, I myself do not necessarily share (all) of Berletic’s opinions on this matter.:

In fact, I think there may be a chance, however small, that Trump launched this most recent fireworks show to shut-up the Israeli and Christian Zionist neocon mob that has been donating billions of dollars while they’ve salivated waiting to make a bombing of Iran happen for the better part of 25 years. Well, Iran has now officially been bombed. In other words, maybe this really is the beginning of the end of this particular tete a tete? Feel free to call me naive for even mentioning this possibility. All of the above said, in other words, don’t shoot the messenger. Not just yet, anyway.
