Civil society leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region gathered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 26, 2025, for an Advocacy Workshop focused on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) and the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG). The event, organized by Integrated Design (INDÉ) in partnership with the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA), aimed to mobilize $300 billion annually by 2035 to support global climate adaptation efforts. A key objective of the workshop was to ensure that the voices of vulnerable communities and regions are integrated into global climate policies.
During the workshop, Integrated Design emphasized the importance of incorporating regional perspectives from the Asia-Pacific to inform both the NCQG on Climate Finance and the GGA. Participants identified key thematic sectors based on the UAE’s FGCR framework, selecting sectors aligned with their areas of expertise and forming collaborative teams.
The discussions centered on climate-related vulnerabilities specific to each chosen sector and geographical region. Participants also listed various adaptation strategies, examined the barriers to their implementation—including financial constraints, institutional challenges, and operational obstacles—and explored potential solutions. The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to share local gaps and network with others working on similar issues.
This event marks an important step toward strengthening regional collaboration on climate adaptation. Attendees left the workshop with new knowledge, tools, and partnerships to advance climate resilience strategies in their communities, contributing to the global effort to address climate change and its impacts.
