Today, Jan. 1, on the occasion of the 57th World Day of Peace, expressing its support for Pope Francis’ message “Artificial Intelligence and Peace,” the Community of Sant’Egidio invited people to start the new year by remembering all the lands in the North and South of the world that are waiting for an end to war and terrorism, starting with the painful conflict still open in Ukraine and the one between Israel and Hamas, which marked the last months of this year.

At St. Peter’s Square, while waiting for the Angelus, placards were displayed with the names of countries and regions of the world where there are still ongoing conflicts and widespread violence, as [there are] at this time also in many parts of Africa, from the Sahel to northern Mozambique. Similar marches and prayer vigils for peace and the growth of human brotherhood and friendship have been organized in many cities in Italy and worldwide.
