Activists in cities across the United States will mobilize today to demand U.S. elected officials call for a ceasefire in Gaza. The U.S. stands alone in its seemingly unshakable support for the continuation of Israel’s war crimes in Gaza. On December 8, it vetoed the United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire and voted against the widely supported UN General Assembly resolution calling for the same on December 12.

This is while Israel continues its genocidal attacks on hospitals schools, and civilians – hunting down journalists, writers, and relief workers. As if that weren’t enough, international aid organizations have issued strong warnings about the conditions of the 1.8 million internally displaced people in Gaza who in their precarious tents now face the threat of disease, cold, and hunger. Without a ceasefire, thousands more could be killed by bombs or just from lack of aid.

Today, people in Boston, Albany, Cincinnati, Fort Wayne, Salt Lake City, Tucson, Rochester, Portland, Rancho Cordova, New York City, Muncie, La Jolla, Martinsburg, Bakersfield, Front Royal, Durham, and hundreds of cities, will be on the streets to disrupt business as usual to make sure that politicians cannot turn their backs on the people of Gaza and continue funding Israel’s genocide.

“The United States stands alone in its unwavering support of Israel. Almost the entire world has called for an end to Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people, and the only reason it can continue its murderous siege is because the U.S. government of Joe Biden has given them a blank check. We will continue mobilizing until their resolute support for Zionism becomes a political liability that they cannot ignore said Yara Shoufani of the Palestinian Youth Movement.

“It is time for the United States to listen to the world and its own population that overwhelmingly supports a ceasefire in Gaza! The people of the U.S. are horrified by the atrocities that Israel continues to inflict on the Palestinian people with their tax dollars and demand that the U.S. cut its political and financial support,” said Manolo De Los Santos, Executive Director of the People’s Forum.

“Biden and Netanyahu think that the pressure on the streets will let up, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Every day we see politicians and media outlets try to lie to cover up Israel’s crimes and convince the public that this is normal but we do not accept this. We will continue mobilizing until there is a permanent ceasefire and Palestine is free,” said Brian Becker, Executive Director of the ANSWER Coalition.
