POEM

The sun will rise and set this day

The sap will flow unseen

to clothe the coffee bark of stark and wintry trees

anew

a primorous virgin green

And I shall flow with morning, afternoon

and twilight cast

in trust that to your ocean warm and wide

of love

return I must

With all my love to Thee

silken lily, touch of grace

Living proof of life’s kindness

Who, tho she’d threshed not long ago

and flailed

with unconcern for years of guarded harvests burnt

returned in June to stroke my cheek

with love’s new bliss

And brought a voice, a form,

a feeling bare and strong

to me…a name, a face

the One amid the throng.
