Hundreds of people participated in the Kingston, NY, Lights for Liberty immigrant rights vigil July 12. Chants included “Black, brown, white, unite to fight for immigrants’ right,” “Love, not hate, makes America great,” and “Say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here.” Speakers from local immigrant rights groups and clergy addressed the crowd. Sponsoring groups included Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson and Citizen Action NY. The response from cars passing by was overwhelmingly supportive, with people honking and giving thumbs up and peace signs.
