Petitioning Joko Widodo, president of Indonesia
Please welcome and accept Rohingya refugees on Indonesian soils
Marco Kusumawijaya Jakarta, Indonesia and Dede Oetomo
Rohingya refugees will die if they are not first and quickly allowed to land on Indonesian soils, as other countries in the region would not accept them.
Indonesia, the largest country in the region, must show leadership in being humane and generous.
Remember the Vietnamese boat people in the past? We had treated them well then. There is no reason not to do the same to other peoples, including the Rohingya’s.
Our second of the five maxims–Pancasila–is: Just and civilised humanity.
