Seeking to answer the question how far the Arab Spring has developed, this First Forum for THE AWAKENING OF THE ARAB PEOPLES was held in Madrid. Organized by the Humanist Federation Convergence of Cultures, it was possible to create an ambit where all could sit in various groups over a long period of time. This meeting has set the conditions for dialogue, in the first place, and for possible future joint efforts along the same lines.

Throughout the day on December 3 in the Spanish-Moroccan Center of the Spanish capital were Syrians, Egyptians, Palestinians, Moroccans, Tunisians, Sahrawi … and they acknowledged the many issues that united them.

This forum has been achieved, which is no small-thing, that some
supported the actions of others that can multiply its influence, and all ended by proposing another forum, which could be two or three days, involving people living in other parts of the Spanish state, on the one hand, and the possibility of developing parallel forums, connected to the Internet while in the countries of origin so that these spaces will have its influence on revolutions’ that will necessarily occur in every country. Regarding the analysis of ‘Arab Spring’, the views expressed were mixed. While some argued that what happened in each country is different, others supported the idea that it was a wave that had spread to demand democracy. There were some who said that in the background it was the same thing that was happening in Europe, that the system did not work. In any case, everyone agreed about that what was sought and it was not reproducing the Western model / capitalist model, as that did not work and that was the model of the oppressors, but to generate a new model.

At the end of the day, the prevailing view was that if it did not change the entire planet, it could not change the situation in each country and “… a common need: to feel that what happens to the other is happening to me, whether the other is Moroccan Saharan, Egyptian or Syrian … It is a human cause in the end .. I am defending my brother, you have to feel that I am human and anyone who is in front of me is my brother, my brother is my mirror. ” The day ended with a sharing of joint resolutions, leaving a scope of work armed for the future. And as the final touch – how else could it be other than our poetry, music and
dances from different countries.

The food, prepared by Syrian women, also allowed them to raise money for the people of Homs, Syria.
