Serious crimes such as murder, rape and drug trafficking are likely to be included along with social security fraud, but the interpretation of being *”criminal”* leaves the doors wide open to interpretations and to deportation of foreigners.

It is evident that foreign managers that defraud whole companies are still welcome in Switzerland, especially if they deposit their money in Swiss Banks, neither is the crime of *”money laundering”* explicitly included in the list of crimes. The reader may guess that the management boards of foreign companies in Switzerland that are exploiting whole countries and regions are also not affected by the new legislation and will be still highly appreciated by Swiss authorities.

Today’s referendum is in the same line as the increasingly harsh immigration legislation that has been approved in popular referendums over recent years. Amongst others, one year ago, another initiative launched by the same party to prohibit the construction of new minarets in Switzerland was also approved. Against the latter, various appeals are currently pending in the European Court for *”violation of human rights”*.

The same voices against foreigners and immigrants are demanding harder sentences for *”youth criminals”*. Will the next step be to deport them as well or to qualify being *”young”* as a crime?

The party which is launching such initiatives usually argue this way: *”We have nothing against foreigners, but…”*, *”We are not against freedom of religion, but…”* or *”We are not against Islam, but…”* Any good thinking reader of such statements will easily detect the hypocritical mental direction of those making such pronouncements, including the mass media that widely reports them. We should not be surprised if in the future we will read sentences like, *”We are not against young people, but…”*

Foreign *”small criminals”* may be deported in the future, but the day will come when people in Switzerland will realize that the serious problem of violence in today’s society will not be solved by deporting so-called *”criminal foreigners”*, nor will the general dissatisfaction and fear which people suffer today disappear by banning Minarets. They will realize that violence cannot be solved through violence, and that within a violent system, all we can expect is more violence.
