A delegation of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, headed by International Spokesperson Rafael de la Rubia, held a first round of meetings today at the United Nations during the Preparation Conference for the 2010 NPT conference.

Total nuclear disarmament is the primary objective of the World March.

De la Rubia started with a meeting with representatives of the Chilean Mission to the United Nations who are hosting the presentation of the World March on Wednesday 6th for national delegates to PrepCom and NGOs. Following this, meetings occurred with Mayor Akiba of Hiroshima, Mayor Taue of Nagasaki and Pol d´huyvetter from Mayors for Peace. Later a meeting with Jonathan Granoff of the Global Security Institute and co-author of the Charter for a World without Violence, led to an agreement in principle for the Nobel Prize Winners to meet the World March when both converge on Berlin in November during the March´s passage around the world.

On Wednesday, 6th May, De la Rubia will have a meeting in Washington with José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States with the interest to explain the development of the World March on the American continent.
