The Outraged People’s March Sets off from Barcelona

The call for Real Democracy Now led to campsites being formed in the largest squares of the largest cities of Spain with the name the “M-15 Movement” calling for a new democracy, political transparency and reform of the electoral law. Now the movement takes to the roads building a momentum of activism that will converge on Madrid on the 23rd of June.

New York legalises Gay Marriage

In an historic vote, the state of New York, the third largest in the United States, legalised Gay Marriage last night joining Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington, D.C. The legislation comes into effect on the 24th of July with thousands of couples expected to take the opportunity to legalise their partnerships.

Non-violent expressions search for a real change in the education system

There have been many expressions of non-violent protest by students which have spread via social networks. The educational crisis has manifested in several institutions which are on strike. Activities are expanding the debate on an issue which is one more symptom of a violent and inhuman system heading for total breakdown, with a crisis that is growing stronger every day.

Madrid: 19J Demonstration

On June 19th in Madrid, as in many other places, people gather to denounce and express their rejection of the many situations of economic violence they are being subjected to: the euro accord, cuts in health and education, corruption … The demonstration was cheerful and enthusiastic like all other multitudinous events of the 15M movement.

Ray of hope in Nepal’s peace process

Five years after the beginning of Nepal’s peace process, there’s a new turn. The main task of the peace process, integration of Maoist combatants, has been fixed to start. A meeting of the Special Committee headed by the prime minister on Monday approved a time-framed plan of action that promises to complete the groundwork by June 24 this year.

Since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008,
our governments have decided to make the people
kneel instead of making the banks pay. The European
democracies have been sequestered by the international
financial markets. We have been taken by the throat by the austerity measures which have multiplied throughout Europe.

A generation awakens

What began in Arabic countries has now gone beyond cultural borders. It has been strongly expressed in three European countries: Greece, Portugal and Spain, and is beginning to appear in many more. It is no longer only in capital cities, but has spread to many cities in order to expand, seeking local and student support.

The Assembly at Puerta del Sol has decided to stay camped at least one more week

The general assembly of Acampada Sol has decided in the morning meeting that they go on camping until the next Sunday, May 29 at least. Nobody of the participants opposed the idea. One of several reasons to continue is to export the working model to others places of Madrid. This was decided at 2:00 am and will be definitive when is published in www.madrid.tomalaplaza.net.
