The bellicose United States of America has lost only two wars in its history. Lost to what is known today as Canada in 1812 and to Vietnam in 1975. Everywhere else they have prevailed.
Lately the Canadian mood has shifted from the typical “slightly superior” view of the Southern Cousins to one of “hold on a minute there” we thought we were family, business partners, fun place and all around Playground for Canadians specially the highlights of New York, California, sunny Florida, Las Vegas, etc
The mood suddenly soured when Mr. Trump began to call the by then unpopular Prime Minister Mr. Trudeau “Governor Trudeau” in an open Colonialist and bullying fashion.
Mr. Trudeau pushed back slightly but it was rank and file Canadians who rallied around a Hockey (Canada’s National Sport) expression “elbows up”.
In the game when an opponent attacks you unfairly the threatened player in a swift motion drops the cumbersome protective gloves. Taking a stand or posture if you of “my elbows are up and ready. My hands are free of the cumbersome gloves and can hit in a more targeted way and hurt. Do you really want to mess with me”?
This is the mood in the street that we feel in Canada now.
