PHOTOWALK 2025.
Organized through the Sorsogon Initiatives for Culture and Arts Development (SICAD) and supported by Gadgetry City, Soffie’s, Koala Project, Project Mars, Rhymes of Peg (ROP), Sorsogon Arts Council, and Kuya Tonzkie Foodhouse, the event will gather photographers, artists, students, and enthusiasts in a collective celebration of creativity, storytelling, and cultural awareness.
The event will also launch the Sorsogon Arts and Culture Online Magazine, an independent, community-based publication that showcases the province’s rich heritage, local artistry, cultural traditions, and critical perspectives on the arts. This addition underscores the collective’s commitment to fostering creative expression, cultural awareness, and dialogue in Sorsogon.
This year’s Photowalk will be led by Venus Ashtred Briñola of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, highlighting women’s leadership in creative communities. The walk will start at the Sorsogon State University Pavilion and conclude at the Sorsogon Baywalk (Rompeolas), where participants can capture vibrant coastal scenes while sharing experiences and reflections from the day.
The local theme for the Sorsogon Photowalk is “Through the Lens of Truth: Responsible, Reliable, and Culturally Aware Storytelling.” It emphasizes photography as both a creative and ethical practice, highlighting truth, responsibility, cultural identity, beauty, and social issues.
“This Photowalk is more than just taking pictures. It is about reclaiming the power of images to tell stories that matter. As artists, we are committed to socially engaged work that reflects both the beauty and the struggles of our communities,” said Judy Azul from the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective.
“Art has always been a tool for truth-telling. Through this Photowalk, we hope to highlight photography as a cultural practice that is responsible, reliable, and aware of the social realities of our times,” said Choi Carretero and Allan Abrigo of the Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter (CAP Bicol).
“Young people are eager to express themselves, and photography gives us a collective voice. By walking together, we show how creativity and collaboration can shed light on the issues that shape our lives,” shared Ruth Jocutan of Rhymes of Peg (ROP) and John Vergel Doctor of Delta Beta Omega (DBO).
“We support this initiative because technology and art go hand in hand. By equipping local creatives with the tools for visual storytelling, we help them amplify their voices and showcase Sorsogon’s rich culture. At Gadgetry City, we believe every creative deserves the right tools. That is why we offer certified pre-owned, industry-standard devices at an affordable price so artists can keep creating, inspiring, and telling their stories without limits,” said Gary George Clotario, COO of Gadgetry City.
The Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk is recognized as the world’s largest global and social photography event, uniting over 24,000 participants worldwide each year since its inception in 2007. Founded by Scott Kelby, a renowned photographer, author, and educator, the event has become a global tradition for creatives.
