We have received the following statement or call to action from jewish organization J-Link. This organization defines itself as «An international network of progressive Jewish organizations. And further clear in their website “We share a love for Israel and a commitment to Democracy, Human Rights, religious pluralism, and a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We believe in the values enshrined in Israel’s Declaration of Independence, which promises “complete equality of social and political rights.”»

We highly value the efforts of those Jewish voices and communities worldwide who are working to make themselves heard and to help differentiate between antisemitism and stricktly political criticism of Israel.

It is essential to understand that Israel is a state with specific policies and, as such, is responsible for the actions of its government, military, and institutions. Any action that clarifies this distinction is vital, as it allows for a clear condemnation of antisemitism (when applicable) to be separated from legitimate criticism of a state’s conduct.

ANNEXATION ENDANGERS ISRAEL’S SECURITY & DEMOCRACY

& CRUSHES PALESTINIAN HOPES FOR A JUST FUTURE

APPEAL BY J-LINK SUPPORTERS
11 de septiembre de 2025

September 11, 2025

In May 2020 J-Link, with significant support from Jewish organizations across 17 countries, petitioned Israel to avoid annexing the occupied Palestinian territories. We then applauded the apparent retreat from annexation and supported Israel’s regional cooperation as a partner in the Abraham Accords.

Sadly de facto annexation has continued. Moreover, international efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza are frustrated by both Israel and Hamas. The Israeli government, under pressure by extremist right- wing parties, is again threatening to annex large parts of the West Bank and Gaza. Annexation is illegal under international law and contravenes relevant UN Security Council resolutions pertaining to the Israel-Palestine conflict, particularly UNSC Resolution 2334 of Dec. 2016.

If implemented, annexation will be the demise of the two-state solution and dash any hopes of the Palestinian people achieving self-determination by nonviolence.

Annexation will turn Israel into a state that maintains permanent control over millions of Palestinians living within its territory while denying them basic civil and political rights, thereby putting an end to democracy.

And annexation will further isolate Israel internationally; and, as recently stated by the United Arab Emirates, it will draw “a red line that would end regional integration”.

Indeed, annexation will destroy the very security that Israel has sought for decades. Furthermore, it will provoke a mounting tide of delegitimization and antisemitism.

Finally, annexation will jeopardize relations between Israel and Jews around the world for whom human rights, equality and democracy are essential principles.

J-Link urges the government of the State of Israel to drop all annexation efforts.

Respectfully,  The J-Link Coordinating Committee

Jon Allen (Former Canadian Ambassador to Israel and Spain), Ken Bob (New Jewish Narrative, U.S.A.), Basil Dubb (JDI, South Africa), Giorgio Gomel (JCall Europe, Italy), Barbara Landau (Canada), Alon Liel (PWG, Israel), Sebastian Levi (France), and Shlomo Slutzky (J Amlat, Argentina).

J-Link is an international network of progressive Jewish organizations. We share a love of Israel and a commitment to democracy, human rights, religious pluralism, and a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  We believe in the values enshrined in Israel’s Declaration of Independence, which promise “complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex.”
