“Love and compassion for the planet and the people shows us the way to world peace…” is one of the statements of “hiking for peace”.
It is in this spirit that “Hiking for Peace e.V.”, whose founder and chairwoman is Isabella Haschke, organised, “for the third and final time” the Peacewave Festival on Easter Monday, April 6, 2026.
Three million lights!
In March, over 1.5 million lights were predicted. Later on, it was predicted that “nearly 3 million people would be praying and lighting lights together worldwide” (Isabella Haschke, personal communication).
What does a light mean?
For the early humans wandering through forests, a light meant a fire, other human beings (hopefully friendly!), food, warmth, and help.
When we are lost at night, we look for lights.
After the long nights of Saskatchewan’s winter, we rejoice when the day comes.
A new day means a new start, the opportunity to do better if yesterday was miserable, and the possibility to fix yesterday’s mistakes.
Lights at Regina’s City Hall

On Easter Monday, seven members of Regina’s Peace Council gathered in front of City Hall to light candles. The candles were electric because, as one of us said, City Hall’s courtyard is a wind tunnel!
A few words were said then we listened to Albinoni’s Adagio.
Our small gathering was enjoyed: It was found “quiet and sincere”, and people appreciated “being together for peace”. It was nice, for once, to have something totally apolitical, without thinking of who was right and who was wrong.
Peace Bits
South of Canada, in the U.S., one more candle was lit.

“My candle looks so tiny. But I don’t mind. I know there are around three million registered for today’s peace candle-lighting!” wrote Kathleen Temple in her April 6 “Peace Bit”.
Kathleen writes one Peace Bit every day and is very happy to share them with whoever wishes. In order to receive them, just email her at KathleenTempleTailor@gmail.com .
Although they are tailored for the U.S., they can often be easily adapted to other countries. They are informative, inspiring, and a real help if you want to write to your representatives but are not sure how to.
Let’s hope that the peace waves coming from the lights lit on April 6 reach all the corners of the world, and all the hearts.
