In Beijing, on Thursday, February 5, a high-level meeting was held between Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Tô Lâm, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. From the Chinese perspective, the meeting reflected the solidity of a relationship based on permanent political dialogue, responsible management of differences, and a shared commitment to peace and regional development.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Vietnam are socialist neighbors, comrades and comprehensive strategic partners, united by a history of cooperation and convergent development goals. He underlined the need to strengthen strategic coordination between the two parties and states, maintain frank communication, and reinforce mutual trust as the foundation for long-term stability. From Beijing, it was emphasized that the bilateral relationship should serve as an anchor of predictability in Southeast Asia and as an example of peaceful coexistence between countries with similar political systems.

The Chinese side emphasized the expansion of practical cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, infrastructure, the digital economy and supply chains, noting that Vietnam’s stable development is also a positive factor for regional balance. Xi Jinping also highlighted the importance of resolving any differences through dialogue and existing political mechanisms, avoiding confrontation and interference by external factors.

For his part, Tô Lâm stated that Vietnam attaches great importance to its relations with China and considers the Communist Party of China a priority political partner. He noted that Hanoi values the approach of dialogue, mutual respect and non-interference, and expressed Vietnam’s willingness to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperation, while maintaining stability and properly managing sensitive issues between the two countries.

The Vietnamese leader stressed that Vietnam is ready to strengthen communication between the two parties, the two states and key institutions, as well as to expand economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges. According to the Vietnamese side, a solid and stable relationship with China is essential not only for Vietnam’s national development, but also for peace and prosperity throughout Southeast Asia.

Both sides agreed on their support for multilateralism and Asia-led regional mechanisms, as well as on the need to coordinate positions in international forums to promote a more balanced international order. From a shared perspective, China–Vietnam cooperation contributes to strengthening the voice of the Global South and countering dynamics of confrontation and bloc politics.

The meeting concluded with a shared emphasis on people-to-people exchanges, especially among young people, academics and organizations linked to both parties, which Beijing and Hanoi consider an essential pillar for the long-term continuity of the relationship.

From the Chinese perspective, the meeting between Xi Jinping and Tô Lâm confirms the ability of both countries to engage in sustained dialogue, manage differences with prudence, and build a relationship based on political trust, pragmatic cooperation and an explicit commitment to peace and regional stability.
