I’m noticing some of my fellow Democrats are talking about Trump’s not going through Congress before kidnapping the president of Venezuela (a notion that’s already riddled with contradictions. As if US congressional approval would have been justification to shatter all standards of international law).
Do you team blue guys, gals, etc., actually believe that Biden or Obama or Bush Jr. got congressional approval for the dozens of illegal invasions, mass bombings, wars and/or proxy wars they engaged the US military and/or its proxy armies in? Are you aware of the fact that (whether we like it or not) Trump, who is a sociopathic narcissist, is still (technically/relatively speaking) a dove in comparison with his 3 immediate mass murdering bombardier war-hawk predecessors? (If you’re thinking Obama was an exception, I dare you to look up the stats. Obama is the Hank Aaron of 21st century bombing, taking the mantle from Bush Jr., who is the Babe Ruth of that statistical category. And don’t even get me started on Biden, whose ground breakingly inept, regime change-fixated, Israel fetishizing administration single-handedly accelerated the end of the unipolar era).
The only difference between the current administration’s foreign policy and the other 3 mentioned above is that Trump broadcasts (most of) the quiet bits out loud. Also, his funding is coming from a slightly less globalist faction of multi-billionaires, which has shifted some of the geographical locations of the US’ primary bombing targets – but I’m digressing here.
It’s good that we’re criticizing Trump for breaking international law. But let’s stop kidding ourselves team blue. In the 21st century EVERY president has been a neoliberal-neocon war-hawk who has seconded our needs and wishes (the needs and wishes we voted these guys in to fulfill) to neocolonialist expansion. We, the US, have now got a military base in nearly every town on the global map. We’re coming up on 1,000, last I checked.
The nonWestern world (which makes up 79% of this planet’s population), who used to at least respect us, now despises and even pities us due to our last 25 years of unprecedented levels of illegality, duplicity and mass killing. It’s time to move on from these war-fixated donor-owned baby boomer imperialist bozos… or at least to stop kidding ourselves about (all) of them.
