In the US, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Chile, Argentina, Hungary, Slovakya, Austria and others the far right political movements have gained space, are in power or have gained the latest elections. A fast growing phenomenon not seen for a long time.

As to the why of this development we must go back to the 70’s and 80’s of the last century.

With the coming of Neo-liberalism, exported from the USA and adopted especially in all European countries, all Left wing and Center parties sold themselves to this new doctrine of a self regulating ‘free market’ without interference of governments. Slowly but steadily the wellfare state of social rights and security, free healthcare, public energy and public transport were sold to the Market, coming in the hands of private enterprises (banks, multinationals, etc.). Profit in the stockmarkets became the main interest and the citizens were reduced to being consumers of what the Market offered to them. The social tissue was progressively dismantled and individualism became the central value. The political Left and Center tried to keep up their social facade for a while but by the year 2000 and beyond the privatisation of all the wellfare assets of the state was complete and the citizens were faced with an ever growing cost of their daily lives. And discontent started to grow.

It were especially the Left and the Center parties who sold everything to the private and uncontrolable sector. A grave and complete betrayal to the populations. It was especially after the year 2000 that far right movements started to appear and grow, taking advantage of the discontent of large sectors of the lower class populations, filling the gap that the traditional Left and Center parties had left.

In Latin America the Neoliberal experiment was introduced through violent military coups, starting with Chile, which was seen by the North Americans as the perfect test ground. It were the military coups (supported and financed by the USA) that secured the development of Neoliberalism in Latin America. And each time a anti-neoliberal government arose in one or another latin American country, everything possible was done to get rid of that government again.

In Latin America the goal of Neoliberalism was to get its hands on all the natural resources through its (mostly) US multinationals. When the military regimes ended, all what came next continued with the implementation of the Neoliberal Rules.

In Europe the goal was to dismantle completely the wellfare state which was seen as an obstacle to the so called ‘Free Market’.

In the Middle East, Africa and Asia Neoliberalism had to be imposed through regime change wars, with the goal to get in posession of the natural, causing massive migration flows.

Neoliberalism was and is the opposite of Humanism and has caused everywhere destruction and suffering. Now that its goal has been achieved, open Autocracy and Autoritarianism has taken its place. And suddenly everywhere in the Western political hemosphere immigration and immigrants are the enemy number one. Immigration waves caused by the violent actions and wars of NATO and the US.

It is the betrayal of the Left and Center over 5 decades that has opened the door to the resurgence of far right fascist movements. That people vote for them is because they feel abandoned and betrayed by the traditional parties and attracted to the strong and clear message these movements give. Very populist but straightforward. The desillusion will come after, when the far right has gained power. And then nothing is left.

Maybe this is the proces of desolution that has to be completed before Universal Humanism can arise in the minds and hearts of the people. In the meantime it is paramount that the signals of Humanism and its values are visible in all societies as a light in the darkness to become a Lighttower that shows the way to the save haven for humankind.
