On December 6th and 7th, Generation Z groups marched through the main streets of the Miraflores and San Borja districts, making their voices heard against the political and social crisis facing Peru. “No to the AFPs!”, “No to extortion and murder!”, “Jerí resign!” (the current president), “Close Congress!” were the main slogans chanted by the young people, amidst repression by the National Police.

It was on Saturday the 6th, in Miraflores, one of the most exclusive districts of Lima, where the young people gathered in Kennedy Park and were repressed by a large contingent of the National Police and the Serenazgo (municipal security force), who claimed they were “generating violence.”

“What they’re doing is defamation, and we hope they have the proof. They should be protecting the red zone where a person was just murdered with 14 bullets on the boardwalk. This incident shows the lack of authority the officials are displaying. And now they say we’re rioting, and we’re just standing here, not doing anything,” said an indignant Jacob, spokesperson for the Generation Z Coordinator.

Despite the peaceful demonstration, the young people were cornered and literally pushed toward Larco Avenue and other streets in the district, where one of the protesters was assaulted by police officers; he was treated by frontline healthcare workers. The march ended at the Larcomar Shopping Center, where they protested, outraged by the mistreatment they received from the municipal authorities.

Demonstration with Police Barricade

Similarly, on Sunday, December 7, a date emblematic for the failed coup attempt by former president Pedro Castillo and the current congressional regime’s takeover of power, demonstrators gathered at the La Rambla Shopping Center in the bustling district of San Borja.

As in the Miraflores district, the National Police also deployed a significant contingent of officers equipped with protective shields, with the aim of suppressing the demonstrators and preventing them from exercising their right to protest.

Generation Z youth announced they will continue organizing to prevent the further takeover of state institutions by corrupt mafias. “If there is no solution, there will be a revolution,” they declared.
