New York City has laws meant to shield immigrant communities from racial profiling, illegal information-sharing, and abusive transfers to ICE. But NYPD and DOC have repeatedly violated these protections — and right now, there is no way for New Yorkers to hold these agencies accountable.
Rights without remedies are not rights at all.
The NYC Trust Act (Intro 214) fixes this by creating a private right of action so people can defend themselves when their rights are violated.
🗳 A crucial City Council hearing is coming up on Monday, December 8.
We need more co-sponsors this week. Two Council Members have not yet signed on:
-
CM Linda Lee — District Office: 718-468-0137
-
CM Sandra Ung — District Office: 718-888-8747
👉 Take action today:
Call their offices and urge them to co-sponsor Intro 214 and stand with immigrant New Yorkers.
Sample Script:
“I’m calling about the urgent need to support immigrants’ rights by passing Intro 214. Intro 214 is a straightforward bill that allows New Yorkers to protect themselves from illegal transfers to ICE custody if their rights under existing law are violated. I hope the Council Member will co-sponsor the bill and help advance it to a full vote.”
📞 Your call can help protect thousands of families.
Let’s make sure New York City’s sanctuary protections are real — and enforceable.
