The attraction to the News is seen as comparatively less in the younger generation now. Especially the Nepali traditional style prints have not become the choice of today’s youth for the News medium.
This day, the young generation started to trust the news from people they like or those of their similar age group, in their own words, language, and style, despite trusting the news provided by well-known media houses that offer factual news.
In Nepal, within this changing era and evolving journalism, some of the rising journalists are becoming the choice of this new generation. Among them is Roshan Shrestha. “In this report, we look into the journey of journalist Roshan Shrestha, a rising figure in Nepal’s digital journalism landscape.”
Roshan Shrestha was born in October 14, 1996 ( Aswin 28, 2053 B.S. ) in Hundung, Bahrabise municipality -7, Sindhupalchok.
His family was low-middle-class who depended fully on agriculture for living. His upbringing was in a humble foundation.
Up to class 3, Shrestha completed his studies in his own village, then from class 4 to 12, he shifted to Shree Bachchhala Devi Higher Secondary School, which is located in another village named “Nagpuge,” a little far from home.
We tried to know Shrestha’s childhood with ” Bajir Singh Bhandari, “who had taught him from class 4 to 10 . According to him, ” Roshan was a hardworking student from his small age and was dedicated towards his studies but due to poor financial condition, he was forced to study at the village government school itself. “

Shree Bachchhala Devi Higher Secondary School, Nagpuje – the school where Roshan Shrestha studied from Grade 4 to 12.
Shrestha has completed his class 10 ( SLC ) from the same school and entered the capital city ( Kathmandu ) in search of work to earn a living.
He started to work in an Ayurvedic company as a marketing agent as well as he also took the exam of Class 11 in 2070 B.S . After working for another year, he left the job and returned to the village.
From his saving which he had earned by working three years in the Capital city, he started to continue class 12 in 2072 B.S, but unfortunately, that year a devastating earthquake struck in Nepal.
Most of the physical structures were destroyed due to the earthquake in Sindhupalchok district and also Shrestha’s house collapsed at that time.
Still, Shrestha passed his class 12 exam in second division in that year and for a few years, he lived in the village helping his parents with farming. During this time, he took part in organising different training programs and supporting farmers in collaboration with various Organizations In addition, he fought for the rights of farmers and provided the government’s subsidies for farmers to the villages.
We talked about Shrestha’s nature to one of the farmers of his village named ” Narayan Pradhan ” . According to him, ” Even though Roshan is younger than me but due to education and his good communication skills, he participated with farmers in various activities in our community, especially in converting the traditional farming method to a modern system. In total, he helped in providing the technical training and arranging the necessary documents to bring the government grants to the village.”

After a few years in the village, Shrestha again returned to Kathmandu valley in search of a good job and earnings in 2077 B.S . At first, he started to work in a vegetable shop. While working in a vegetable shop, Shrestha started his YouTube career and used to upload videos on his channel occasionally, which mainly contained the surroundings and beauty of his village.
During this time, He met a person named ” Rajib Basnet ” who is a native citizen of the valley and the owner of Burger House located in Koteshwor, Kathmandu. At that time, Basnet had just started his career in the film industry. After Shrestha met with Basnet, Shrestha started to take interviews of some of the actors and uploaded videos on his YouTube channel. Rajib Basnet helped Shrestha and became the bridge to meet the celebrities.
We also contacted Rajib Basnet to know more about Roshan Shrestha, and according to him, ” I have been familiar with Roshan few years. When I first met with, he was running a YouTube channel, so I happened to connect him with a few actors like Salon Basnet, Shovit Basnet, and Aakash Shrestha. Even I managed to take an interview of Salon and Shovit Basnet in my own cafe . He was interested in digital platforms from that time. Currently, he is active in journalism these days.”
After that, Shrestha left the job in the vegetable shop and gave full time in YouTube and met different public figures, including actors, politicians, communicated with them and gained knowledge. After the experience of 1 year, in 2078 B.S. he registered his own news media company named ” Khoj Samachar ” which is presented by Bethel Media House Pvt. Ltd.
But in the meantime, the impact of COVID began in worldwide, which had a huge impact in Nepal too and a lockdown was imposed for months.
During this, many businesses collapsed and had a great effect on Shrestha’s newly opened media house so, he took almost one year break from journalism.
Then, after some time, the wave of COVID-19 gradually subsided, and the lockdown imposed by the government gradually lifted and again businesses began to reopen.
About a year later in 2079 B.S., Shrestha resumed his journalism journey and has been continuing his work in the years since then.
Before, Shrestha and his team used to publish news on the website only ” khojsamachar.com ” but from Mangsir 2079 B.S. he started to publish news in video form on the Facebook page named ” Khoj Samachar” where he himself is the presenter.
He has been continuously broadcasting videos on his Facebook page covering current affairs and adding his personal opinions to them. In the last two and a half years, he has grown and drawn attention among the younger audiences.
Shrestha uploads one or two videos on a daily basis on his Facebook page.
He has gained good reach on Facebook and many people view his content on a daily basis in addition, he has good audience in his YouTube channel too.
In 2025, he launched his mobile application named after himself, “Roshan Shrestha”. The app includes features like : Nepali Calendar, a facility to check visa status for those wishing to work abroad, and learning how young people can build a career on Facebook or YouTube. As of July 2025, the mobile app released under the name of Roshan Shrestha has crossed 100,000 downloads on the Google Play Store.
Gyanendra Shahi, a member of the House of Parliament, has also responded to this app. In the middle of 2025, he appreciated the app and posted on his Facebook page, which seems to have further increased public interest in the app.

In a country like Nepal, which is in the early stages of digital infrastructure development, It is a challenging task in digital journalism to maintain the trust of the youth and present content based on truth and reality.
In such an environment, Roshan Shrestha seems to be continuously working on that path. His experiences can be observed by younger generations who want to pursue their career in the journalism field .
