In yet another ceasefire violation – this time ahead of the Indian prime minister’s visit, the International Border in the Kanachak sector of Akhnoor tehsil in Jammudistrict, was the scene of violence that left civilians and soldiers dead, which has caused the population to ask when will all this stop so they can get on with building a normal life.

A woman was found dead and three others were injured, including a Border Security Force jawan. The firing also triggering an exchange of fire between the Pakistan Rangers and BSF troops, which was still going on when last reports came in to Rediff news agency. This is the eighth ceasefire violation in this month.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu on Friday July 17 to attend the centenary celebrations of former state Finance Minister Girdhari Lal Dogra.

Besides showing the flag for India it would be useful if Modi would call for his troops stationed there to make more efforts at reducing tensions – the same applies to the Pakistan side of course.
