The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists announced today the new position of the Doomsday Clock, an international symbol representing the level of global risk linked to nuclear weapons, climate crisis, geopolitical instability, and emerging technologies.
With today’s update, the Doomsday Clock stands at 85 seconds to midnight, 4 seconds closer than last year, when it was set at 89 seconds to midnight.
According to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the decision is motivated by the increase in all threats (nuclear weapons, climate change, new emerging technologies with negative impacts) that have characterized recent years, without any real awareness or action on the part of policy makers to solve these problems.
