A new report from our collaborators aboard the boats of the Global Sumud Flotilla, currently in Sicily awaiting departure for Gaza.
No beatings yesterday for the members of the Global Sumud Flotilla. We carried out a simulation of direct nonviolent action, thinking about the likely scenario of a criminal assault by the Israeli military on the boats. No one was hurt, but we must learn to control our defenseless bodies. We are afraid, but we lay on the ground without reacting to the simulated violence of a possible illegal seizure of the boats.
We must train our bodies for nonviolent civil resistance so that we do not react physically or verbally, either instinctively or voluntarily. We have made the necessary and indispensable preparations for our safety. If anyone reacts, they could put others at risk. I don’t believe that the Israeli military wants to kill us, but I know that our lucky passports cannot protect us from stray bullets. A genocide is taking place in Gaza before the eyes of the world. We are determined to go all the way to break the blockade on humanitarian aid.
