More than 100 activists and trade unionists, along with four Members of the European Parliament, representing an international solidarity network spanning 19 countries—including Italy, Morocco, France, Switzerland, Greece, and Spain—landed at José Martí International Airport in Havana, Cuba, carrying humanitarian aid and medicines worth half a million euros. Applause and shouts of joy greeted their arrival.
Thanks to contributions from major organizations and over 700 individual donors, €45,000 was raised.
MEP Ilaria Salis, who traveled with her colleagues Mimmo Lucano, Emma Fourreau, and Marc Botenga, stated: “This is Europe standing in solidarity with the Cuban people, who are facing an unjust and precarious situation. I believe that brotherhood among peoples is the foundation, and the way to overcome violence,” she concluded, looking up to speak of a future without borders. Mimmo Lucano echoed her sentiments, expressing his admiration for Cuba and its resistance to the American empire.
On Saturday, March 21, the Convoy Nuestra América is scheduled to arrive by sea from Mexico, joining this demonstration of solidarity and concrete aid to a people who have been resisting the American blockade for decades.
