New set of demonstrations are happening in Iran. It started with the merchants of Tehran and some big cities closed their shops as a protest movement to the unaffordability of life in Iran and the horrible unstable economy in the country, alongside all other problems. And the demonstrations have expanded to people in the streets of all cities and also university students.
They are now using anything to stop people. From arresting university students, hitting people, using anything from pepper spray and electric shockers to batons, tear gasses, water cannon and guns. I’ve seen from people’s videos that young people are being killed again! And it is important to know that all this is for having a normal life with minimum stability!
Here’s a very simple explanation for you to understand how bad inflation is in Iran: one US dollar in Iran is now near 1,400,000 Iranian Rials, this number has increased 50% compared to 6 months ago, 350% compared to 3 years ago and about 4600% compared to 10 years ago. And well this directly affects people’s lives because the minimum wage hasn’t changed in the last 6 months, it has increased 240% compared to 3 years ago and only 1950% compared to 10 years ago. How should people keep up with this? How can they live a normal life? And all this is while at least trillions of dollars have been spent for nuclear energy development of the country; including the financial loss due to the sanctions that happened for this reason.
I think this is enough to understand the reason why these demonstrations are happening. Young people are tired of life, because there’s no hope anymore for a stable future. A basic need of a human being is having a home. If you don’t consider inflation in the future (which is impossible), a person making minimum wage should work for 700 years and spend none to be able to buy a tiny apartment in Iran. Seven hundred years!
And yet, that’s not all the Government of the Islamic republic of Iran is doing to Iranian people. The obvious violence of the government against people, killing massive numbers of young people, the lack of certain basic rights of people, etc. Iranian people are tired of the situation, and the regime of ayatollahs.
May stability and peace be for all.
