Reporter senza frontiere denuncia con preoccupazione l\u2019arresto e il trasferimento illegale di Melaku Desmisse<\/b>, redattore del Reporter<\/a> settimanale etiope a grande tiratura che pubblica in aramaico.<\/p>\n

Melaku Desmisse \u00e8 stato arrestato per motivi sconosciuti nel suo ufficio di Addis Abeba dalle forze di polizia della SNNPR, Regione delle Nazioni, Nazionalit\u00e0 e Popoli del Sud (Southern nations nationalities and people\u2019s regional state) che lo avrebbero in un primo tempo condotto alla caserma di polizia di Bole, nella periferia della citt\u00e0, e poi trasferito a pi\u00f9 di 250 Km a sud, a Awasa, capitale della regione-stato.<\/p>\n

\u201cIl governo etiope richiama la stampa al rispetto della legge talmente spesso che \u00e8 incomprensibile come possa tollerare che la polizia e le autorit\u00e0 stesse ignorino la legalit\u00e0 cos\u00ec apertamente\u201d. Di fatto \u00e8 illegale che le forze di polizia della SNNPR, arrestino un giornalista ad Addis Abeba, non avendo giurisdizione nella capitale\u201d dichiara Reporter senza frontiere.<\/p>\n

\u201cSe sussistono elementi per cui Melaku Desmisse ha infranto la legge, dovrebbero essere presentati alla giurisdizione di Addis Abeba, la sola che possa giudicare. Nel frattempo, richiediamo l\u2019immediata scarcerazione del giornalista di Reporter, <\/i>tanto pi\u00f9 che i motivi del suo arresto non permangono del tutto nebulosi\u201d.<\/p>\n

L\u2019arresto del giornalista potrebbe essere legato alla pubblicazione, risalente al 4 settembre, di un articolo che annunciava erroneamente il licenziamento di tre vice-presidenti dello Stato regionale. Notizia smentita il giorno 8 settembre, dallo stesso giornale e con tanto di scuse ufficiali. Dopo l\u2019arresto, il giornalista non ha potuto essere contattato e secondo fonti di Reporter senza frontiere, continuerebbe ad essere interrogato dalla polizia della SNNPR.<\/p>\n

Il giornale indipendente Reporter<\/a><\/i> in aramaico, e la sua versione inglese The Reporter<\/a><\/i>, di propriet\u00e0 del gruppo Media Communication Center (MCC), rappresentano i media pi\u00f9 importanti del paese e sono stati spesso oggetto di atti intimidatori.<\/p>\n

Nell\u2019aprile 2012, il sito in aramico che conta circa 30.000 visitatori al giorno, era stato bloccato<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nell\u2019agosto 2008, il capo redattore del giornale, Amare Aregawi, <\/b>era stato arrestato e ugualmente trasferito fuori dalla giurisdizione di Addis Abeba. Qualche mese dopo la sua liberazione su cauzione, era stato gravemente ferito alla testa nel corso di un\u2019aggressione da parte di sconosciuti.<\/p>\n
