Les rayons color\u00e9s proposent-ils r\u00e9ellement des centaines de yaourts, chocolats, plats pr\u00e9par\u00e9s\u2026 diff\u00e9rents\u00a0? Non, selon une \u00e9tude (\u00e0 t\u00e9l\u00e9charger\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fwwat.ch\/GroceryGoliaths\" rel=\"external\">ici<\/a>) de l\u2019ONG am\u00e9ricaine Food and Water Watch, publi\u00e9e le 5 d\u00e9cembre. L\u2019organisation a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 100 cat\u00e9gories de produits pr\u00e9sents dans les supermarch\u00e9s \u00e9tats-uniens. Et ses conclusions mettent en pi\u00e8ce le mythe du choix du consommateur. Derri\u00e8re l\u2019apparence de rayons remplis de produits diversifi\u00e9s, les grandes surfaces proposent des aliments mis sur le march\u00e9 par seulement une poign\u00e9e de g\u00e9ants de l\u2019agroalimentaire. Pour un tiers des types de produits examin\u00e9s, quatre compagnies ou moins contr\u00f4lent plus de 75% des parts de march\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Prenons l\u2019exemple de la nourriture pour b\u00e9b\u00e9\u00a0: trois grandes entreprises contr\u00f4lent 90% des ventes\u00a0! Sur le secteur des c\u00e9r\u00e9ales de petit-d\u00e9jeuner, quatre entreprises (Kellogg\u2019s, General Mills, PepsiCo et Post Foods) concentrent 80% des parts de march\u00e9, sous des dizaines de marques diff\u00e9rentes. De m\u00eame, 86% des ventes de bi\u00e8re sont r\u00e9alis\u00e9es aux Etats-Unis par quatre compagnies. Vous avez le choix entre un pack de Stella, de Leffe ou de Budweiser. Mais toutes ces marques appartiennent \u00e0 la m\u00eame entreprise\u00a0: AB InBev (qui d\u00e9tient 47% des parts de march\u00e9 de bi\u00e8re outre-Atlantique).<\/p>\n<p><strong>La grande illusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La concentration tr\u00e8s pouss\u00e9e de l\u2019agroalimentaire n\u2019est pas visible dans les rayons des supermarch\u00e9s. Le client a l\u2019impression d\u2019avoir le choix entre des producteurs diff\u00e9rents. La pratique\u00a0<i>\u00ab\u00a0laisse les consommateurs croire qu\u2019il choisissent entre des produits concurrents alors qu\u2019il choisissent simplement entre des produits fabriqu\u00e9s par la m\u00eame entreprise, et peut-\u00eatre m\u00eame dans la m\u00eame usine\u00a0\u00bb<\/i>, conclut l\u2019\u00e9tude de Food and Water Watch.<\/p>\n<p>La situation est-elle comparable en France\u00a0? La concentration de la distribution alimentaire entre les mains de quelques groupes est en tous cas similaire. Aux \u00c9tats-Unis, plus de la moiti\u00e9 de l\u2019argent d\u00e9pens\u00e9 par les consommateurs dans leurs courses alimentaires est all\u00e9 dans les proches de quatre entreprises de supermarch\u00e9s en 2012, note l\u2019ONG dans son \u00e9tude\u00a0[<a id=\"nh1\" title=\"La cha\u00eene de supermarch\u00e9s Walmart attire \u00e0 elle seule 28% de la somme globale\u00a0(...)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bastamag.net\/Supermarches-comment-l-industrie#nb1\" rel=\"footnote\">1<\/a>]. En France, une poign\u00e9e de groupes de grande distribution (Leclerc, Carrefour, Auchan\u2026) concentrent aussi la majorit\u00e9 des parts de march\u00e9 de l\u2019alimentaire. Et plusieurs g\u00e9ants de l\u2019agroalimentaire omnipr\u00e9sents dans les rayons des supermarch\u00e9s \u00e9tats-uniens sont loin d\u2019\u00eatre inconnus en France. Nestl\u00e9 (72% des parts de march\u00e9 des aliments pour nourrisson aux \u00c9tats-Unis, 47% des ventes de pizzas surgel\u00e9s, 47% des aliments pour animaux) distribue en France une dizaine de marques de c\u00e9r\u00e9ales de petit-d\u00e9jeuner (Chocapic, Nesquik, Crunch,..) sept marques d\u2019eau min\u00e9rale (Vittel, Contrex, Perrier,&#8230;) plusieurs marques de cacao en poudre. Unilever vend en France des dizaines de marques de condiments, de soupes, de glaces.
