Los resultados del estudio, el m\u00e1s completo de un halo alrededor de una galaxia jam\u00e1s realizado, fueron publicados\u00a0en\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/1538-4357\/aba49c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Astrophysical Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos descubrieron que el halo tenue y casi invisible de plasma difuso se extiende a 1,3 millones de a\u00f1os luz de la galaxia y hasta 2 millones de a\u00f1os luz en algunas direcciones, lo que significa que partes del halo de Andr\u00f3meda\u00a0<strong>ya est\u00e1n chocando con el halo de la V\u00eda L\u00e1ctea<\/strong>.\u00a0Se\u00a0cree que los halos de\u00a0esas dos galaxias bastante similares tambi\u00e9n deben ser muy parecidas. Si su halo gaseoso pudiera verse a simple vista, ser\u00eda aproximadamente tres veces m\u00e1s ancha que la Osa Mayor.<\/p>\n<p>En el marco del proyecto AMIGA (Mapa de Absorci\u00f3n de Gas Ionizado en Andr\u00f3meda), el estudio\u00a0<strong>examin\u00f3 la luz de 43 cu\u00e1sares<\/strong>, los n\u00facleos brillantes y muy distantes de galaxias activas alimentadas por agujeros negros, ubicados mucho m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de Andr\u00f3meda. Los cu\u00e1sares se encuentran dispersos detr\u00e1s del halo, lo que permite a los cient\u00edficos explorar varias regiones. El inmenso halo de Andr\u00f3meda est\u00e1 hecho de gas muy enrarecido e ionizado que no emite radiaci\u00f3n que sea f\u00e1cilmente detectable.
