In Zeiten, in der weltweit die Hinrichtungszahlen steigen, ein ermutigendes Signal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Von Helmut <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Ortner<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Weltweit haben \u00fcber 144 Staaten die Todesstrafe abgeschafft oder verzichten auf ihre Anwendung. Nun kommt ein weiteres Land hinzu. Das Parlament im westafrikanischen Ghana hat f\u00fcr die Abschaffung der Todesstrafe gestimmt. Die Abgeordneten beschlossen die Streichung der Todesstrafe aus den Gesetzb\u00fcchern des Landes. Zum letzten Mal wurde 1993 in Ghana ein Todesurteil vollstreckt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eDas Todesurteil ist zu endg\u00fcltig und als Land, das die Menschenrechte respektiert, kann es nicht weiterhin Teil unserer Gesetze sein\u201c, sagte der Oppositionsabgeordnete Francis-Xavier <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Sosu<\/span> gegen\u00fcber der Nachrichtenagentur AFP. Er hatte die Reform zur Abschaffung der Todesstrafe im dortigen Parlament eingebracht.<\/p>\n<p>Vollst\u00e4ndig kann die Bestrafung mit dem Tod allerdings erst nach einer \u00c4nderung der Verfassung Ghanas abgeschafft werden. Darin ist die Todesstrafe noch f\u00fcr das Vergehen des Hochverrats vorgesehen. Vorgesehen ist, dass Pr\u00e4sident <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Nana<\/span> <span class=\"hiddenSpellError\">Akufo-Addo<\/span> die entsprechenden Gesetzesvorlagen zeitnah unterzeichnet. Au\u00dferdem wird erwartet, dass er alle Todesurteile in Haftstrafen umwandeln und ein offizielles Hinrichtungsmoratorium erlassen wird. Nach Angaben der Gef\u00e4ngnisbeh\u00f6rde sitzen in Ghana derzeit 172 Gefangene im Todestrakt.<\/p>\n<p>Die Abschaffung der Todesstrafe in Ghana, einem Land mit knapp 33 Millionen Einwohnern, <span class=\"hiddenGrammarError\">\u201e<\/span>ist nicht nur ein Sieg f\u00fcr all diejenigen, die sich daf\u00fcr eingesetzt haben, dass diese grausame Strafe der Geschichte angeh\u00f6rt und der Schutz des Rechts auf Leben gest\u00e4rkt wird<span class=\"hiddenGrammarError\">\u201d<\/span>, sagte ein Sprecher der Menschenrechtsorganisation Amnesty international. Es ist ein wichtiges Signal f\u00fcr andere Staaten, auf die Todesstrafe zu verzichten.
