Mauro Carlo Zanella

I have lived in Rome for over thirty years and work as a primary school teacher in Trullo, a historic district that is now one of the capital’s most multi-ethnic neighbourhoods. I am a member of the ANPI (National association of Partisans) ‘Franco Bartolini’ branch and of the choir and theatre group associated with it. I have been a member of the Communist Refoundation Party since the beginning and was previously a member of Democrazia Proletaria. As a conscientious objector with Pax Christi in the early 1980s, I took part in the struggles against the deployment of Euromissiles in Comiso and in the protests against the summits of capitalist globalisation, from Genoa in 2001 to Fasano in 2024. I am committed to fostering a culture of peace and the full integration of pupils whose parents come from other countries and/or are Roma. For the past six years, I have been a member of the Mani Rosse Antirazziste (Antiracist Red Hands) group, founded by Enrico Calamai, former vice-consul in Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires, which, since July 2018, has been denouncing the complicity of Italy and Western countries in the ‘migranticide’ of the New Desaparecidos’ by marching every Thursday afternoon outside the Ministry of the Interior.
