Workers´ Trade Union (CUT) of Chile called for a nationwide strike on April 30 in order to celebrate International Workers’ Day and to demand better salary conditions.

On this occasion, the protest is aimed at demanding the government to approve a $500,000 pesos (about US$ 700) emergency basic income and to freeze food prices, which have risen a lot in recent months.

These measures would allow millions of Chilean families to face lengthy quarantines due to the Covid-19 pandemic and to avoid having to go out to work to find their daily livelihood.
