Public demonstrations called by students in all regions of the country have been peaceful in nature, contrary to what has been shown in the press. As always there is a minority group of misfits, victims of the system, that end up weakening and hurting the movement in front of public opinion.

However, this time students have used technology to make original, attractive and ingenious videos for their cause. Many of their creations have been published in major media outlets, highlighting innovative proposals.

In one example a group of journalism students at the University of Santiago contacted exchange students encouraging them to make themselves known in a video about the educational policies in their respective countries. It is appalling to appreciate the differences with our own system, which is in serious crisis that cannot be remedied by attempts to “patch up” the system proposed by Minister Lavin. What is needed are structural measures that change the problems at the root.
