Three non-violent activists, formed whilst in contact with Francois Giorgi (French Humanist) are amongst those who have been killed.

The Humanists strategy in Ivory Coast has been not to confront or be exposed to conflict, given the extremely violent situation that is developing. Attacks by the military and armed groups loyal to the former president, who refuses to give up power, have escalated in the last few days reaching an increasing number of districts.

The banks remain closed and trade has ceased, therefore people cannot withdraw money or access food easily. Although they have remained calm at least three Humanists have already died as a result of the expanding conflict.

Ceremonies of Well-being (from Silo’s Message) for those involved in the non-violent struggle in Ivory Coast will be held throughout Europe and beyond.
