500 youngsters of the GPace-Giovani per la Pace (‘Young People for Peace’) movement have made the biggest peace flag in the world (21 metres wide by over 40 metres long) which completely covered Piazza Duomo in Lecce.

Wearing the t-shirts they decorated themselves with images and slogans of peace, the GPace youngsters invited everyone who flocked to see the gigantic flag to complete the handiwork by leaving their own mark on the flag itself. Hundreds of children, young people and adults signed, drew and wrote on the coloured fabric that represents the great desire for peace that the youngsters of Lecce want to convey to the world.

The initiative was part of the ‘More Fun No More War’ campaign which condemns the terrible reality of child soldiers. “We did it to send a very clear message to countries in conflict, in Africa and other continents, where children and teenagers are still abused and used as soldiers and suicide bombers.”
