Hundreds of people took part in the “Mass karaoke for peace and nonviolence” in the centre of Santiago in Chile, singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” and “Canción con Todos” by Meredes Sosa. From the stage, under the giant screen in the pedestrian island right in the centre, national artists who have given their backing to the World March for Peace and Nonviolence such as Andrés Velasco, César Caillet, Francisco Melo, Elvira Cristi, Grimanesa Giménez, Alberto Castillo, Sebastián Valdebenito and the singer, Mario Guerrero, got those present to sing along together.

An event that called for the elimination of violence and in support of peace in relations between people and States, underlining the fact that “Wars between countries are always in response to cold financial calculations.”

César Caillet expressed his joy at participating in this huge event dedicated to peace, in a place where usually football games are broadcast, and invited all the artists to read the five points of the call of the March, which is crossing the planet to demand a world without wars and violence. On the giant screen were the pictures of thousands of balloons being launched into the air by the children in a clear signal to the world that Chile is not indifferent to the issues highlighted by the World March.

The initiative was organised by World Without Wars and the Conciencia Foundation. The event ended with all present joining in a chorus of the slogan “Nonviolence and peace are strength.”
