Presentation of NGO projects closes Conference in Nagasaki

Mayors for Peace Conference counted with the presentation of NGO projects and experience regarding nuclear disarmament. Rafael de la Rubia presented the proposals of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence together with members of different Japanese and international NGOs, as well as the Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Pressenza Nagasaki, 8/12/09 The final day of the Mayors for Peace Conference on August 10, scheduled the panel "Talk with NGOs and Citizens". It included speeches by representatives of almost twenty NGOs as well as civil society organizations. During the speeches tens of campaigns and local actions were presented. Some took place in different cities in Japan, such as Kyoto and Hiroshima, others were global like Peace Boat and the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, by World Without Wars organization.

There were speeches by pacifist and nuclear disarmament leaders such as Pol D'Huyveter, Mayors for Peace, and Akira Kawasaki, Peace Boat, among others. Rafael de la Rubia, from World Without Wars presented Nonviolence proposals and actions, as well as a campaign video.

Hiroshima Mayor, Tadatoshi Akiba, and Nagasaki Mayor, Tomihisa Taue attended the presentation and reaffirmed their intention of supporting the World March when the team passes through Japan mid-October of this year.
