For another year, the International Humanist Party has returned to participate in the Madrid round of the World Social Forum. On this occasion, some members of this party led two workshops: “Nuclear disarmament: social and economic effects of military spending” and “Conclusions of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence”.
PressenzaMadrid, 31/01/2010The International Humanist Party conducted two workshops this weekend during the Xth World Social Forum in Madrid thereby taking part once again in the nearly 80 activities that were carried out on Friday and Saturday at Lope de Vega High School.
The Humanist Party workshops were conducted under the title “Nuclear disarmament: social and economic effects of military spending” and “Conclusions from the World March for Peace and Nonviolence”. In this way, both were linked to the recent conclusion of the World March which, for 90 days, traveled the five continents demanding the revision of arms race policies around the world.
Humanist representatives emphasized the importance of this forum as a meeting place for persons of different beliefs, united by the interest in searching for new methods for social transformation. The Humanist Party's Nacho Martínez confirmed that “this forum's value is evident; now, we must take what is being proposed to the street”.
The Madrid round of the World Social Forum, thereby, clocks up another year on an already traditional date on the communal antiglobalization movement's calendar. On this occassion, Porto Alegre in Brazil was the city charged with hosting the group by means of a meeting in which some 35,000 people from 39 countries took part.
