Honduran associations ask for reestablishment of their consulates

The non-recognition of the current government of Honduras has led to administrative collapse, according to Honduran associations in Spain. Representatives of these Honduran organizations are requesting the International Community, particularly the Spanish Government, to consider the vulnerable situation of Honduran immigrants as a consequence of closing Honduran consulates.

Pressenza Madrid, 11/11/09 The associations of Honduran residents of Spain have prepared a joint press release asking the International Community, and particularly the Spanish Government, to consider the vulnerability of the situation Honduran immigrants are left in with the closing of their consulates.

These closings have been due to the non-recognition of the current government of Honduras by a majority of the States. This includes an administrative blockade paralyzing essential bureaucratic proceedings; the processing of passports and renewals, driver's license's and registrations, etc. They also denounce that there are children in "stateless" situation not being able to be registered.

In the press release, Honduran associations ask their politicians “to make a sincere effort to recognize the coming General Elections”, as a way out of this crisis.

The Honduran community in Spain is the second largest in the world, with more than 30.000 residents.
