After many months of preparation here in the Conscience office, we are pleased to report that our Taxes for Peace Bill has been scheduled for parliamentary debate on the 19th of July 2016. Put forward as a 10 Minute Rule Bill by Ruth Cadbury MP, the Bill calls for a new tax structure that would allow conscientious objectors to redirect the military portion of their taxes into a fund designated for non-military security. This change to the law would allow all individuals to contribute to national security with a clear conscience!

With the Bill scheduled for debate in just 18 days, it is absolutely crucial that conscientious objectors all over the country make their voices heard by their representatives. The single most important thing you can do to ensure the Taxes for Peace Bill passes through Parliament on July 19th is email your MP today. Members of Parliament often make their decisions based on the views expressed to them by their constituents. You can contact your MP by following the steps listed here. Remember your MP is there to represent you and your conscience. Please us know what sort of response you receive from your MP. This would be a great help to our campaign, as it lets us know what sort of support we have, and how to reach out to more of your representatives. You can forward replies to your communications at: campaign@conscienceonline.org.uk

You can also make the importance of the Taxes for Peace Bill heard by sharing the campaign online. When sharing on social media please use the hashtags #PeaceTaxBill or #PeaceTaxNow to help us get the word out to as many people as possible before the Bill reaches parliament on the 19th.

Finally, talking about the Taxes for Peace Bill with your friends and family is a great way to explore and publicise both the Bill itself, and the reasons why it is needed in modern Britain.

Together we can end financial conscription.
